High-water season is dawning on Grand Forks, but the community is not lacking helping-hands. The River Valley Community Church has been donating their time to filling and distributing sandbags for residents. Pastor Gabe Warriner says he got the idea last year, and helping seniors is his primary goal.
Warriner says that the tube method can fill about 1-thousand-bags per hour. He also says they get their sand from all over!
But the church was recently approached to help in another way.
He says they had no problems lending a helping hand. Warriner adds that the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary deposited sand at the airport, the arena, and the fire station on Starchuk Road. With that the church filled about 3000 sandbags.
