Grand Forks Border Bruins’ Levi Astill has been named Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer Award for the 2024/25 KIJJL season.
Astill, an Edmonton native in his second season with the Border Bruins, was a dominant force, leading the KIJHL with 90 points in 44 games. He netted 34 goals and added 56 assists, including 32 primary assists, while being held off the scoresheet in just six games. Averaging 19:33 of ice time per game, Astill posted a +41 rating and won 53 percent of his faceoffs—an all-around performance that was critical to the Border Bruins’ success.
“Getting that many points and leading the league in scoring, it’s well deserved,” said Border Bruins head coach and general manager Dave Hnatiuk.
“He scored big goals—nice goals—and was a threat every night, especially on the power play. His consistency earned him this award.”
Astill’s offensive production extended to special teams, where he topped the league with 22 power-play assists and 32 power-play points, including 10 goals. He also recorded six game-winning goals—fifth in the league—and added a short-handed tally to his impressive stat line.
“He just drives the offence,” said Hnatiuk.
“Whether it’s a 2-on-1, a breakaway, or having the puck in the slot on the power play, you know something’s going to happen.”
Beyond the stats, Hnatiuk emphasized Astill’s off-ice dedication.
“He came into the season in great shape and maintained his routines—skills sessions, gym work, sprints at night. He’s fully committed. He’s never missed a practice or skills session, and he takes every rep seriously. It all transfers over—his ability to see the ice, protect the puck, and make plays. He’s extremely dangerous around the net.”
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) continues its recognition of outstanding on-ice performances this week with Most Valuable Player, Top Scorer, Top Defenceman, Top Goaltender, Rookie of the Year, Most Sportsmanlike Player, Coach of the Year and the newly added General Manager of the Year.
