Border Bruins advanced to take on the Grizzlies

The Grand Forks Border Bruins will advance to the Teck Cup Championship Finals after defeating the Kimberley Dynamiters 4-0.

In game four over the weekend, the Border Bruins opened the scoring on a goal by Levi Astill and are 8-0 in the playoffs when scoring first.

Kosec led the Border Bruins with nine points in their series against the Dynamiters, while Nash Wassing led them with five goals.

Alex Edwards rifled a shot past Dynamiters goalie Josh Hager to advance the Border Bruins to their first Teck Cup championship. His overtime winner came with 58 seconds remaining in the period.

Russell Kosec collected two assists and Eric Kahl was solid in goal with a 29-save performance in front of a crowd of 830. Jake Briltz and Tristan Weill scored for the Dynamiters.

Hager finished with 25 saves.

The penalty-killing units for both teams were perfect, with the Dynamiters going 6-for-6 and the Border Bruins 3-for-3.

The Border Bruins will now go up against defending champions, the Revelstoke Grizzlies, beginning April 8.
