Seattle Black Fins take the GFI Baseball title

The Seattle Black Fins have beaten the Seattle Studs 13 to 5 to claim top spot in the 40th Grand Forks International Baseball Tournament.

Despite a rain delay during yesterday’s game, the Fins kept the Studs chasing all game, with 5 runs in the first innings.

Overall, Team Coordinator for the event Steve Boutang says organisers were pleased with the turn out.

“It’s been a fantastic tournament crowds are quite good, and the weather is cooperated for the most part for the whole week and it’s been a great week.” he said.

This year’s format boasted a quality eight team schedule, a reduction on team numbers from previous years, but proven to draw the crowds.

“That format actually worked out really well because we’ve been able to maximize the amount of games that we’ve been able to play in the evenings and keep everything on schedule, so it’s been actually a very positive change this year.”

As the tournament wraps up for another year, organisers pay thanks to all involved.

“A big thanks to all the volunteers and the fans.” said Boutang.

“Without volunteers the tournament doesn’t run and without fans we have nothing, so you know the people of Grand Forks have supported this tournament wonderfully for 40 years and so glad to see it carry on this week.”
